Five Down, One To Go
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office added another notch to its belt of triumphs with Wednesday's dismissal of one of the lawsuits over the tradition of playing holiday music in the jails. Sheriff Joe Arpaio's reaction? "Score five for Santa Claus, I guess," he said, according to the news release from MCSO.

It was only Monday that Arpaio announced he would be continuing the annual tradition.

Arpaio is in charge of the jails and the inmates. I see nothing wrong with playing Christmas music during the holidays. They have a good message for everyone...not just the mall shoppers. I like Arpaio as sheriff and think he does a great job.

I think the Sheriff is the only one in law enforcement in the Phoenix area who is doing their job when it comes to arresting anyone who is here illegally.
He is doing the right thing which we all know that the right thing is not always the most popular.
I feel that he is doing a great job and wish Janet Napalatano would leave him alone because it is my money she is spending to go after him.
I also agree with the Christmas music.

I guess some minority groups will find every chance they get to use the race card. If Joe was anything but white this wouldn't be an issue. Thanks for trying to make everyone follow the same rules. I have been waiting for 3 yrs to get citizenship in Mexico. I guess I should just go steal someone elses identiy and if I get arrested I should say its because I am white.

I think Sheriff Joe is an embarrassment to Law Enforcement. He had shown through his abuse of power that anyone who crosses him or objects to his methods of policing will be a target. Judges, Media, Mayors, Council Leaders, Candidates for Sheriff other Law Enforcement agencies, nothing escapes the MCSO Mafia headed by the biggest Gangster in Arizona. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do, except impeach him if we stand together. Its time to start over, and get someone in the Sheriff’s Office we can trust.

Sheriff Joe is the only elected official in the country that is doing his job. If we had more public officials like Mr. Arpio this country wouldn't be in the mess that it's in now. We have a Congress that can't balance a check book and won't quit spending money it doesn't have. Joe should run for President.

Why do we spend so much time on him playing Christmas music. They should be glad they get some music in that dull place. He does a great job and other sheriffs wish they could be like him. They have even come to Phoenix to talk to him. I thought that his job was to arrest anyone doing something illegal, since when is coming into this country by sneeking across the boarder. I am 82 years old and it seems like the young people these days have a different view on whats legal. Ask Californians why their state is so broke.

I have a friend who is a psychologist. He believes that people are not addressing the real issue with Arpaio. The real issue is whether or not Arpaio is still competent enough to serve in public office. He said that the short answer is No. There should be a competency hearing to force Joe into retirement. This is coming from a trained clinical psychologist who works for the government, not some Joe hater.

This brought us to another interesting discussion about whether or not there should be a mandatory retirement age for public officials.

Those who praise Arpaio know nothing about the US constitution or the law. Apraio is supposed to be upholding the law, AT EVERY LEVEL. We should expect no less from a public official, in fact we should expect MORE. There should be no place for abuse of power in public office. This should never be tolerated in the country. If this type of behavior is tolerated then America will become as corrupt as say Mexico. How Ironic that Sheriff Joe acts as corrupt as some of the Mexican law enforcement officials.

Is racial profiling even a question at this point? I'd love to share a short story about the mentality of some of uncle Joe's deputies... To start, I have experienced reverse discrimination living abroad where I was stopped to offer local peace officers for a donation because the color of my skin. Please note, these are developing countries and the officers are just looking for a hand out. I am white. My mother-in-law is not. While entering the freeway in the Litchfield Park area she was pulled over by a MSCO officer. When she asked what she did wrong, the response from the deputy (literally) was "Well m'am, this is my county and I want to make sure that everyone here is legal to be here." First gripe: She's brown (from Thailand). Second gripe: She's 58 Third gripe: She was doing NOTHING wrong. Fourth Gripe: Luke AFB sticker on the windshield. Our family has served 70 years (combined) in the armed forces and this officer has the nerve to question the patriotism or a 58 year old woman? Had she realized what the officer was doing at the time, she may have grabbed his badge number and asked him a few questions of her own. To miss your mark by that much Joe, I am disappointed. Time to get to your next TV interview mate...

Joe Arpaio is the most unprofessional law enforcement official that I have ever seen. He is centered on himself and does not see that he is a public SERVANT. He thinks he is the law and that he decides what is legal. He is incompetent to run the jails. He thinks it is the job of his deputies to abuse the public.

He tauts himself as the toughest sheriff in the country. He surely is the craziest and most incompetent. Tough he is not--he is a coward.

Oh Please!!! I am a native of Arizona and have seen the infiltration of illegals for over 4 decades. The reason we have the problem that we have today is that the genius lawmakers granted immunity to all the illegal citizens in the 80's and scares me that they are talking about it again. What is it that the general public doesn't understand about the word "ILLEGAL"?? Once anyone crosses the borders illegally it is a felony. Over one-third of our prisons and jails house illegal inmates which cost the taxpayers 100 million a year. The educational system spends 300 million and health care is well over 800 million a year. As a taxpayer I could not get any assistance for my family if I needed it! Now, illegals don't even have to prove that they reside here to get assistance. My God, we have to show ID's to get on a plane, but to cross the border illegally you win the welfare lottery!! I hope that all the taxpayers out there really don't mind working 4 months for free, because that's exactly what we are doing as law abiding citizens to pay for their healthcare, education, and to keep them all fat and happy.
I like Joe Arpaio and could only wish that he would take over the state prison system as opposed to the county level he is on. If the media would have us believe that he is so unpopular, than why does he keep getting elected?
Maybe we should release all the prisoners that have commited a felonies....crossing the border is a felony!!!

Don't get me wrong...Most people that cross the border are not criminals, just looking for a better life. It's the ones on the nightly news that give them all a bad name.

WHAT PART OF "ILLEGAL" DO YOU NOT GET?
WHAT PART OF "ILLEGAL" DO YOU NOT GET?
WHAT PART OF "ILLEGAL" DO YOU NOT GET?

NO REALLY WHAT PART????????

I think that the percentage of votes that an elected official receives is a good indication of how the voters feel about of their record. A good example is the percentage of votes Sheriff Arpaio receives. A higher percentage than anyone else in Arizona.
Sheriff Arpaio is upholding the laws of the State of Arizona. If the voters don't like the existing laws then get them changed. I believe that the VAST MAJORITY of LEGAL CITIZENS of ARIZONA support the existing laws and Sheriff Joe's efforts to enforce those laws.

We appreciate that Joe goes after LAWBREAKERS. If I am breaking the law of the land in which I am residing, I would expect to be prosecuted for that crime. That's common sense..not harrassment, not racial profiling, not disrupting anyones chosen lifestyle. It is UPHOLDING THE LAW as he was ELECTED to do. It has nothing to do with anyones age, race, religion. It has to do with THE LAW. If so many people don't want him in office, then why don't they REGISTER TO VOTE and vote him out?? Again, common sense.

He brags how much he has saved the county over the years yet forgets to tell us how much he has cost us in lawsuits made against him and his department. Like I said. I support many of his policies. The christmas music isnt going to hurt anybody,it might actually make some of those criminals wish they had never got themselves locked up in the first place.. BUT.. There are many other things that Arpio does that offends and leaves the average constituent scratching thier head about his intentions for Maricopa Countly. It seems since he wins the vote, he can do anything he pleases. The things he does stems so much further than the illegal issue or wearing pink while in custody. If we want to nail him for something, please get him for something GOOD.. So we can be done with him calling shots all the time. Im sure there are other opponents that could do his job and keep all the good he has accomplished for Maricopa County, and get rid of the DRAMA he always seems to muster!

A professor at a big 10 university once felt that police were bullies, and made a point to teach that to her sociology students. She took up the challenge by a local police officer to ride along with him for 2 weeks, approved by officials. She got out of the car and observed the officer on his daily calls for service.

By the end of her time riding with the officer, she had a different tune to teach her students. The professor could not believe the actions of criminals and the limitations placed upon law enforcement to deal with them. She was surprised by how dangerous and uncaring criminals are. They have no problem hurting someone to get by with their crimes, and are mostly proud of their actions. Wow what a shock to her pre-conceived notions of those who have no regard for the law. Outcome of the police ride-along, the professor wanted to find ways to help the police find safer and more effective ways to get these hoodlums behind bars faster.

Uncover your eyes and see criminals for what they are. Their families don't usually see them as bad guys, I hate the term "turning their lives around", sorry momma you child is the "leader of the pack"

Go Joe!

We desperately need a blog site that allows the families of county and state inmates - to tell their stories.

This unfortunately is a " legal welfare" state. Attorney's are taking rediculous fees , for simple plea-bargain arrangements and are actively discouraging defendents from challenging the Maricopa County Judicial system.

When an individual forfeits his or her basic Constitutional rights - for a fair trial before their piers - It opens the door for the abuse of police powers , and the exclusion of all civil rights and humane treatment by those in authority.

On the surface , The playing of Christmas music , inside the Maricopa County Jail , seems harmless and even brotherly.

However , When you realize that it is not a gesture of kindness , but rather psychological warfare , it can only be considered an abuse by those who hold the keys to freedom.

I have been present , in the Maricopa Court rooms , as attorney's filed complaints , and presented evidence of civil rights violations.

The medical and food resources , inside the county jail complexes , is not above board and sometimes requires legal remedy.

Family members ,who visit inmates , are treated more like cattle than citizens supporting the plight of their loved ones.

The general public must realize that many of those , who are jailed are awaiting hearings and possible trials , and as far as I'm concerned still retain all of their civil rights and Constitutional privileges.

If the Maricopa County Sheriff and the District Attorney are filing law suits against the very people , who support some of their own agenda's - Where on God's green earth does that leave the average Joe.

This dynamic duo always expound , in their legal briefs and filings , this larger than life conspiracy against their collective critics.

Have you ever noticed how many criminal or civil counts are listed - in any of the cases they file.

These multiple counts whether they be civil or criminal are designed to discourge witnesses , compound the work of juries , and to provide a broader scope of interpretation - if said cases are sent to an appellate court.

Police Drug Task Force groups , and the police agencies , in general , upon realizing that there are no true challenges to police tactics or complaints , have a tremendous amount of leverage and freedom to discard the liability of their actions.

Considering the legal plea-bargain welfare State that is the status quo , The cost of really good representation is very expensive.

I would only hope that some of you encourage KPHO to expand the horrizons of this debate.

I feel that it is absolutely imperaive that the more disadvantaged citizens of this county and state are allowed to expose just some of the horror stories , which take place behind the gates , within the tents , in darkened hallways , and in the streets of towns that compose - Maricopa County.

You could not afford a sue happy retard of a sheriff like Joe in Detroit MI. He would bankrupt the County coffers with his worthless lawsuits. Detroit has no where near the tax base that Maricopa county has. I for one will be glad when the old fart dies and finally stops wasting our tax dollars down here in AZ.

I think you people need to realize Sheriff Joe is the only one up holding the laws on the books our forefathers fought for. If not for him we would have all the illegals living here in Arizona there are too many here that should be thrown out I wish he could get them all sent back to their countries. The illegals don't pay taxes and they are all criminals. Anyone who wants them here needs their heads examined. They are taking away our jobs and are a burden on our taxes. They get all the freebies and we don't.
We need to take care of our own people in our country who need help, the legal citizens of America who are paying their taxes and support our flag. Thanks Sheriff JOE, your doing a great job in my book.

Years I saw Joe at the beginning of a Parade in Scottsdale. I tried to approach him with my two young children, to introduce him, when one of his grunts (no uniform) deflected us as if we were a threat to him. Sure left a bad impression. Does he really have so many enemies that he feels his security should be none less than the Pope's?

I would suspect that the act of treason against the lawful citizens of these United States and the willful obstruction of justice in Maricopa county, perpetrated by one ( Lydia Guzman ) will ultimately be the death of her. I also suspect, that her illegal Mexican friends will be more than happy to hold the all revered ( Car Wash ) in her honor, although she is apparently devoid of any honor whatsoever, to help with her funeral expenses. PHOENIX -- The Phoenix U.S. Census office is working with Hispanic organizations in the state to make sure they get an accurate count of the number of illegals living in Arizona.
Local Census office manager Al Nieto said that encouraging illegal immigrants to fill out the Census forms is not only important for statistical reasons, but also for funding.
"We have many people who are in Arizona who are not here legally, but whose children attend our schools and go to hospitals, and those are all affected by the Census results and the federal dollars that come back to Arizona," Nieto said.
According to the General Accounting Office, 65 percent of Hispanic residents nationwide returned Census forms in 2000, compared with 78 percent of white residents.
Max Gonzales, vice president of communications for Chicanos Por La Causa, one of the organizations working with the Census, believes the government is just doing its job.
"The Census is doing the requirements of the constitution, which is to go out and count every inhabitant," Gonzales said. "An inhabitant doesn't mean whether it's documented or undocumented. It's every inhabitant."
According to the Census office, Arizona will end up losing about $400 per year for the next 10 years for every person the state can't count, adding up to $4,000 per person. If the state misses out on counting 250 people, that will add up to $1 million in lost funding.
Gonzales said committee workers are going to various communities to hand out pamphlets about the Census and inform people that filling out the forms is a good thing.
"It's our job to let them know that reaching out to the Census is OK and that their information is safe and secure," Gonzales said. "This does impact them on a real micro level."
But one illegal immigrant, who identified himself only as Pedro, said he doesn't plan on filling out the Census form.
"They call us illegals and we don't count for the government," Pedro said. "They push us away and they don't want us here. So what (do) they want us (for)? Just (so) we get counted for money?"

And there you have it my friends; the sole reason our elected officials are pushing so hard to get sheriff Joe Arpaio out of office, the sheriff is not deporting illegal aliens back across the border he’s deporting “ MONEY “ back across the border and this bankrupt state can’t have that happen. It is my opinion that the elected officials of the state of Arizona, are supporting groups such as Chicanos Por La Causa, La-Raza, and ( Lydia “ the scuz “ Guzman ) and her ( We are Not!! America Coalition ) in order to bring in and retain as many “ illegal aliens as possible, in order to defraud the Federal Government out of Millions of dollars during the 2010 census period. If ever a Federal investigation was warranted, this is it and should begin at the state capital and work it’s way down. In lieu of a Federal investigation into the working’s at the State Capital, we are forced to live with a criminal illegal alien element, because” they amount to Money for the state. If you don’t believe me, just ask Pedro. That’s my opinion, what’s yours? J.W. Simms.

Way to go JOE

No we don't need any workers from Mexico. The number of Americans without jobs is higher than the number of Americans without jobs during the last great depression. Why would we want legal immigrants from Mexico when we don't have enough jobs for the Americans citizens in this country?

Other than the third world workers from Mexico, the only ones who want the modern day slaves to come here is the rich who don't want to pay a fare wage. No American can compete with the wages these immigrants are willing to work for. Why? Because most Americans don't have twenty of their friends and distant family members living in one three bed room house, that's why. STOP all immigrant workers legal or not, is what Washington should be doing. But until the majority takes control of our rich controlled government, we will have legal and allowed illegal immigration. If Washington allows immigration to continue here, when there is not enough work here for Americans, maybe then the majority will realize who really runs this country.

This is America and the American’s country, not Mexico’s or the Mexicans that come here expecting free food, medical care and housing. No, they have no rights or nothing coming.

TO ALL OF MEXICO’S MAJORITY
Stay home and fix your corrupt government. WE DON’T WANT OR NEED YOU!!!!

To the Mexican People:

We are not racists. We don't hate immigrants. We do NOT want illegal immigrants.

We do not want you to come here and have your anchor babies then latch onto gov't benefits and teach your children and other family members to do the same.

We know you're human - so are we.

We are a nation of law and order and expect you to abide by our laws. Come here LEGALLY, pay taxes, do not become a burden to our country and you'll find we are happy to have you.

God Bless America.

In the spirit of “telling it like it is” Let’s compare the California and Maricopa Counties approach toward undocumented Aliens.

California is nearly bankrupt as a result of years and years of aggressive “ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS” populated by many many undocumented, non-citizens. California’s welfare roles are Huge. Arizona has similar struggles but not nearly as pervasive or as financially draining. Why such a big difference? The Sharif of Maricopa County gathers the undocumented / uninvited aliens and sends them back to their native homes. And since he has been doing it for a long time the impact to Maricopa’s welfare rolls is high but not outrageous such as California.

In conclusion, Sheriff Joe Arpaio is doing his job. The people that do not like it are the Law Breakers or the Friends / Families of the Law Breakers. Please do not imply Sheriff Joe should stop doing his job to satisfy the complaints of criminals. He’s supposed to be smarter than they are.

Hearing both sides of the Sheriff’s Grand Jury story would be refreshing and closer to “telling it like it is”. Consider: Is there an appearance of guilt associated with any of the Individuals investigated by the Sheriff dept? According to KPHO’s news broadcasts many are Politically connected or powerful individuals, coupled with a White House that is very “SOFT” on un-documented immigration. So to move the White House’s agenda, Sheriff Joe’s rigid enforcement of the Laws is getting in the way [sounds a bit like ACORN doesn’t it] so the US Attorney General seats a Grand Jury to “investigate” the application of the Laws by the Maricopa’s Sheriffs dept. Thereby making it appear the Sheriff dept is abusing it’s power. What if the Sheriff’s investigations prove the individuals are guilty? If they are innocent their good name(s) are intact, nothing lost, but as long as the Grand Jury is seated the Sheriff’s investigations are on HOLD. Who is Abusing power??

In my opinion, BHO’s White House is going be embarrassed. They are “heavy handed” with the wrong Sheriff.
